The Next Door provides a continuum of evidence-based services for women and their families impacted by addiction, mental illness, trauma and/or incarceration with Christ-centered compassionate care.


The primary role of the Support Service Specialist is to provide support to volunteers, assist residents with emergency and non-emergency needs, and address facility needs. The shift for this position is: M 12:30pm-5:30pm, T/W/Th 2:30pm-7:30pm.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties include the following:

  • Act as the point of contact for all volunteer correspondence

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer spreadsheet and volunteer files

  • Create and maintain monthly volunteer calendar

  • Distribute calendar to all staff and communicate changes to staff

  • Lead volunteer training biannually or as needed

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer training materials

  • Appropriately assign mentors to mentees

  • Be available to residents for immediate concerns or needs

  • Complete weekly maintenance check and report facility concerns to Regional Assistant Director or designee

  • Complete incident report for significant encounters

  • Provide transportation with company van as needed

  • Perform urine drug screens and breathalyzer as requested by supervisor

  • Conduct room checks as requested by supervisor


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-year experience managing/coordinating volunteers

  • Nonprofit experience preferred

  • Experience working with women involved in the criminal justice system preferred.

  • Minimum of 1-year experience working with women in crisis situations preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent written communication and organizational skills

  • Confident public speaking skills

  • Passion to work with women in recovery and reintegrating to the community from incarceration

  • Strong time management skills

  • Must thrive in teamwork environment

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office and database management

  • Availability to work evenings and some weekends for special events, speaking engagements or volunteer service days

  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification

  • Willingness to complete background check

  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License

  • F-Endorsement Driving License preferred (can obtain upon hire)
