Events Manager- Tennessee Aquarium

The Events Manager will oversee Event Rental sales and operations to ensure client satisfaction, attendance and revenue objectives. This individual must possess excellent leadership and customer service skills and be flexible to work weekdays, weekends and after-hours as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Identify opportunities and develop sales efforts to increase rentals through the acquisition and retention of corporate clients and the ongoing solicitation of convention groups

2. Ensure excellent guest experience through staff selection, training/development, scheduling and supervision/evaluation of full-time, part-time and seasonal events staff

3. Lead the events team to effectively define event details with clients and vendors; upsell add-ons and recommend options that are mutually beneficial for the client and the Aquarium

4. Help promote offsite events by maximizing relationships with hospitality partners including hotels, the Chattanooga CVB, the Chattanooga Sports Committee and area attractions

5. Prepare related correspondence, work orders, billing and report data for after-hours events

6. Manage and maintain cost of sales with respect to monthly expense budgets

7. Establish and maintain operational policies and procedures that ensure consistency and a safe environment for guests, staff, caterers and contract laborers

8. Maintain excellent working relationship with other departments affected by events

9. Work closely with caterers and contract laborers to ensure quality and adhesion to Aquarium guidelines and recycling efforts during events

10. Take a lead role in the implementation of the Aquarium’s fundraising event

11. Maintain product inventory for facility rental, ensuring uninterrupted service

12. Maintain a clean work environment and commissary ensuring high scores from Health Inspectors; manage renewals and inspections with the Alcoholic Beverage Commission

13. Adhere to and exhibit the core values and service standards set forth by the Aquarium

14. Ensure and maintain company standards in cashiering procedures and accuracy

15. Work collaboratively with and assist the Food and Beverage Department as needed; act as an extension of the concessions team during high volume periods for groups and lunches

Key Requirements

• One year experience in event management or a related field; four years’ experience preferred

• Must be flexible to work weekdays, weekends and after-hours as needed

• Persuasive and able to relate the benefits of hosting an event in Aquarium facilities

• Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills; ability to maintain poise under pressure

• Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills

• Quality orientation and attention to detail

• Some college preferred

• Valid driver’s license

• Beer/wine card
