Program Coordinator- St. Alexius Outreach Ministries

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position holds two roles as both volunteer and community transportation coordinator. Both positions are vital in the development and sustainability of SAOM. The volunteer coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the Hospitality at Home (HaH) volunteer program and the SAOM Community Transportation program; this job description will be re-evaluated and updated, as determined.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shares in the St. Alexius Outreach Ministries vision and mission, demonstrates its values, supports and is sensitive to the ongoing mission of the Alexian Brothers; demonstrates knowledge of and follows departmental and AMITA HR policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Education and Experience - Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services field of study

• Knowledge of volunteer management principles

• Previous work, volunteer and/or work experiences relating to older, vulnerable adults

• Licensure-Department Motor Vehicle records-

 Valid Tennessee driver’s license with an “F” endorsement

 Acceptable DMV record

 Able to operate 15-passenger van as back-up driver

• All pre-employment screening requirements have been satisfactorily met

• Experience with in-home visitation of participants

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Volunteer Program Coordinator

• Recruit, interview, screen, provide orientation and ongoing training of all volunteers and Alexian Brothers serving within the ministry

• Resolve and manage volunteer conflict and/or grievances with support from Executive Director, if needed

• Apply, track, record and maintain accurate records, electronic and hard copy files of volunteer information and activity for tracking

• Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers act as a single point of contact for all communications

• Author written communications such as cards, newsletter

• Maintain relationships with partnering agencies i.e. RSVP – Retired Senior Volunteer Program

• Accompany care coordinator on all initial home visits to assess in volunteer placement

• Accompany volunteer on initial home visits

• Maintain active membership and participation in DOVIA - Directors of Volunteers in Agencies, as schedule allows

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – SAOM Community Transportation Program (CTP)

• Manage the Community Transportation Program schedule and calendars for driver/participant distribution

• Apply, track, record, and maintain and update status database of CTP participants

• Maintain and assure all participant’s applications are up to date and on file

• Develop and maintain relationships with on-site public housing resident councils and/or private property management, if available

• Work with driver to ensure accurate and efficient scheduling

• Serve as and/or obtain approved back up driver

• Seek special programs and discounts to benefit low-income seniors to distribute to CTP participants


• Cover for peers during vacations and at other times of facility need

• Assists with programs and events as assigned by Executive Director

• Exhibit good judgment and has ability to adapt well to change

• Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a safe and professional manner to co-workers and participants

• Reports to work as scheduled

• Other duties as assigned


• Well organized and demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with internal and external customers

• Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively and work cooperatively with other employees at all levels within the ministry and in the community
