Function: Under the direction and supervision of the Medical Society Executive Director, manages Membership, Communication, and Marketing functions for the Medical Society, Medical Foundation, and Medical Personnel Services.

Media Relations and Communications

 Coordinates media relations, including media outreach, development of news releases and materials, contact with media, scheduling interviews and media coverage

 Edits and oversees online production of Chattanooga Medicine, the Medical Society newsletter

 Manages the Medical Society’s InfoSTAT broadcast email activities

 Manages organizations website,;,, and


 Develops and implements annual membership recruitment plans and activities

 Manages production of the Annual Medical Society Directory, including design and vendor relations

 Staffs the Medical Society Membership Committee and develops annual plans to recruit and maintain membership

 Provide support as needed to the Medical Alliance

Marketing and External Relations

 Assist the Manager of Medical Personnel Services and the Executive Director to execute and evaluate external client relations, including MPS client relations and new client development; Medical Society membership retention and recruitment, including member prospect contacts and application support; Project Access participant recruitment

 Serves as liaison between community organizations in outreach initiatives

Development and Corporate Partnerships

 Position may include some aspects of fund development and corporate partnerships.

 Generates advertising revenues from all sources to support publication of annual directory and other publications

Events. The manager plans, manages, executes, and participates in all Medical Society and Medical Foundation sponsored events, including:

 Annual Meeting and Installation of Officers

 Annual Picnic

 Annual Legislative Reception and/or Legislative Dinner

 Annual Mini-Internship Program

 Youth Leadership Forum/Future Docs

 Doctors’ Day in Nashville

 Annual Gala (Denim & Diamonds)

 Special Membership Events

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Knowledge and Experience:

 Bachelor’s degree in related field (or bachelor’s degree in unrelated field and commensurate experience in the marketing/communications/membership/development arena).

 Progressively responsible experience and training.

 At least five years of successful, direct experience in marketing, membership, communications, and/or development in a nonprofit or membership environment.

 Strong skills in desktop publishing, basic design, ability to produce newsletters and other publications on tight timelines. Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, as well as Adobe InDesign Suite software. Experience managing membership and other databases. Experience maintaining websites.


 Develop and maintain effective relationships with the media, members, corporate partners, board members, and staff.

 Demonstrated ability to relate well to, and understand the needs and interests of corporations in order to develop relationships, including determining when and how a corporation can be successfully solicited for a gift.

 Ability to promote the communications, membership, fundraising and strategic priorities by developing excellent working relations with other staff members, physician members, and related organizations.

 Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.

 Able to work under pressure of deadlines and dollar goals

 Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required

 Must be available for weekend and evening work, as required.
